Vintage 1950's Rare Designer "Gustave Tassell" Two-Piece Set Matching Dress & Jacket in Pink, Red, & Orange Silk-Brocade Floral

Vintage size n/a

(Comparable to modern women’s size XXS/XS)

This garment is an early design by Gustave Tassell, a famous American couturier, beloved by Jacqueline Kennedy and Princess Grace of Monaco, who won a Coty Award in '62, and lead the design for the House of Norell after Norman Norell passed. This particular design was made prior to his work for Norell and comes from one of his earliest collections. Most of Tassell's work is now found only in museum collections or personal archives and are very hard to come by, especially as a complete set.

Based on other works from this collection, we presume this is set is made from a heavy-grade silk brocade with a fine silk lining. There is a metal zipper back closure to the dress and an attached belt with a flat bow that hooks at the front. There is waist tape built into the inside of the bodice, indicative of the time period. The jacket is adorned with amazing oversized woven buttons and has a snap closure at the neck. Both the dress and the jacket are lined. This dress has been modeled with a period-accurate crinoline slip underneath (not included with purchase). If you have any further questions or would like to request more photos, we encourage you to reach out to us on our IG page or via email.

Jacket:

Bust: 18"

***please note that the waist measurement is for the actual waist of the dress itself; the inner waist tape (if the owner/wearer chooses to utilize this feature) measures 11"

For reference, the mannequin used has a 32"bust and 26" waist; this garment could not zip up past the waist, but there was excess room in the bust area.

Measurements above are taken of the garment lying flat. For the bust and waist measurement, please double to compare to your own body's measurements. Remember to allow some ease for fit.

Good condition. Please review the last 3 photos for the signs of wear along the princess seams of the bodice: this is not a seam separation, but an abrasion of some of the fibers in the weave of the fabric.
